Can you give some advice on tempering low-iron / Starphire glass?

Usually, low-iron, also known as Starphire, glass needs longer heating time compared to normal float glass because this material is more transparent, and its radiant heat absorption is lower. Also, comparing to normal float glass, higher cooling pressure is usually needed for low-iron glass. This is explained by its lower heat radiation from the glass.

What is better in order to save energy costs – to start the furnace after being turned off or from the sleep mode?

Using the sleep mode or turning the furnace off depends on the stop time. If you stop the production for two days or for the weekend, then the sleep mode is better. If the production is stopped for a longer period of time, then turn the furnace off.
